Welcome to Avery Septic Service – always at your disposal!

For more than 50 years and three-going-on-four generations, our family business has provided responsive and complete residential and commercial septic services to North Central Connecticut and the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. From septic tank pumping, septic inspection, septic system cleaning, and septic tank repair services to septic system excavation, we can do it all for you – promptly, professionally, and cost-efficiently!

Contact us now and let us prove it!

Always Avery, since 1960.

The Avery family philosophy and business mission.

It’s simple: We treat everyone – customers, employees and vendors alike – with respect and honesty, the way we would want to be treated.

Our mission is to provide our customers with superior residential and commercial septic services that can only come from our commitment to working our hardest and using superior-quality materials.

Even as The Avery Companies have grown over the past 50+ years in services offered and customers served, we maintain our old-fashioned style of building relationships and nurturing loyalty.

Our History.

The founding father (and mother) of The Avery Companies were Donald and Martha Avery, who established the septic company in Somers, Connecticut, in 1960. Together, they began providing septic excavation work and septic system installation to the residents and businesses of North Central Connecticut and the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts.

By the early 1970s, their growing sons, John and Dan, were also growing more involved with the business.

When Donald retired in 1984, John took over septic pumping, inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair services, and Dan took over septic excavation services and septic system installation, as well as delivery services for sand, gravel, fill and loam.

Dan’s son Jason – Donald and Martha’s grandson – came to work with his Uncle John in 1997 on the septic pumping, inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair services side of Avery upon graduating college.

In 2002, Dan expanded the septic company with the founding of Avery Portables, providing portable restroom rentals for special events and construction sites. John retired in 2003, the same year Dan expanded Avery Portables to include roll-off portable dumpster rentals for residential and commercial use.

Avery today.

Although Donald and Martha have passed, their legacy lives on: Jason continues to run the septic inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair service side of the business, alongside his dad Dan, who still oversees septic system excavations.

The Avery Companies have grown sophisticated enough to handle any job, but have remained old-fashioned enough to ensure an owner is always involved in managing your account and fulfilling your need.

We belong to the Connecticut Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association (COWRA), and are certified by OSHA, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Each of our neatly uniformed and highly skilled employees holds current DOT Medical and Commercial Motor Vehicle Certification, is licensed by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health, and is subject to random drug testing.

The Avery Companies’ fourth generation of family ownership isn’t far behind: Jason’s two young sons, Jacob and Zachary, are already learning the ropes and helping out – when they’re not practicing their spelling or playing with action figures.

The towns we serve.

We service North Central Connecticut and the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts with residential and commercial septic services including East Windsor, Ellington, Enfield, Somers, South Windsor, Stafford, Suffield, Tolland, Vernon, Willington, Windsor, and Windsor Locks. Not sure if we service your town? Call us or send us an email.

Giving back.

The Avery Companies are longtime supporters of Somers Little League, the Somers Soccer Association, and the Somers Basketball Association.

Septic Cleaning, Maintenance & Repair Service for Residential and Commercial Systems

The only septic system backup you should have is us.

If your home or business isn’t connected to a public sewer system, you have a septic system for disposing wastewater. And, by law, you are responsible for maintaining this system.

So the big question remains: How do I know when it’s time to check my septic system?

  1. Are your sinks, toilets, tubs, showers slow to drain?
  2. Do you smell the odor of sewage in your yard?
  3. Is the ground soft and mushy even when it hasn’t rained?
  4. Do you have an especially lush patch of green grass in an otherwise ordinary lawn?

If you replied “Yes!” to any of these questions, the correct answer is always Avery!

Contact us now to respond to these warning signs!

What is a septic system anyway, and how does it work?

Septic systems are basically an underground septic tank that is connected to an underground drainage area. All the wastewater generated by your household or business drains into one main drainage pipe and into the tank. Solids settle to the bottom of the septic tank, kitchen oils and grease float to the top, and wastewater runs out of the tank system into the ground.

Your challenge is to have the accumulated solids pumped out on a regular basis, before they back up and cause a catastrophic mess of your property, daily routine, and finances. The cost of a routine septic system pump out/cleaning, and maintenance check is a small fraction of the thousands of dollars it would cost to repair or replace a neglected or failed system.

Avery makes it effortless for you: Call us to perform a routine, cost-efficient septic tank cleaning – and we’ll automatically send you a postcard reminder next time you’re due for service!

How often does a septic tank need to be serviced?

A septic tank should be cleaned every two to four years, and some septic tanks require more frequent cleanings. Frequency of cleaning depends on the size of your tank, the condition of your system, and the burden placed on it (e.g., garbage disposal; number of people using the system; etc.).

Avery septic services include:

  • Residential septic tank cleaning
  • Commercial septic tank cleaning
  • System inspections by sophisticated video camera for use in real estate sales/property transfers
  • Septic system repairs – risers, covers, baffles, pipes, distribution boxes
  • Automatic grease trap service for industrial kitchen facilities – schools, restaurants, hotels, universities, municipal buildings, corrections facilities
  • Automatic scheduling reminders
